How good is the Coverage Map for Mint Mobile?

The Mint Mobile coverage map has improved greatly over the past year.   Just take a look at Mint mobile’s current US coverage map.

Cell phones have completely changed the way we lead our lives. Now we can quickly look up a great restaurant to eat at or find directions to our friend’s birthday at their cabin. With all these fantastic new capabilities, having quality cell phone service is essential.

There are a lot of options on the market for quality cell phone providers. One of the better options for people on a budget but still want a comprehensive network coverage map is Mint Mobile. You have probably heard of them before from those viral commercials with the gorgeous Ryan Reynolds.

What is Mint Mobile?

Mint Mobile is a telecommunications company that provides prepaid and service-based cell phone plans. They are pretty new to the game, being founded in 2015, but have already created an incredible reputation as revolutionary. They were even named “Most Disruptive MVNO” in both 2017 and 2018.

What is an MVNO?

Mint Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and prepaid wireless carrier. This means they do not have their own cell phone towers but choose to use the cell phone towers of one of the big three providers: T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon.

Instead of having to maintain their own cell towers, Mint Mobile piggybacks on T-Mobiles coverage maps. They rent out the towers for their own customers and get the benefit of a giant cell phone coverage area without the expense of maintaining a network.

The only downside is that T-Mobile might prioritize their customers over Mint Mobiles during heavy usage periods, but that is pretty rare.

For example, here is the area around the incredible New England Aquarium.

As you can see, not only does Mint Mobile offer full coverage, but they also offer up to 5G speeds. Of course, that will depend on your personal cell phone capability, but still pretty decent.

Should I Get Mint Mobile?

Let’s get down to the brass tax. The fact is Mint Mobile offers a quality product for a much lower price than the big 3 cell phone providers. So if you are on a budget but still want quality service, you cannot go wrong with Mint Mobile. Their coverage map and speed capabilities are excellent, and they offer fantastic customer service.

The only catch is if you live in a rural area. Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile towers, which tend to focus on higher-density geographic locations like big cities. As a result, their 4G is a little behind in coverage compared to AT&T and Verizon at 65%. However, their 5G is currently the best in the nation.

In other words, if you have a cell phone from the past 2-3 years and live within the green coverage map areas, Mint Mobile is definitely a great option. They offer plans with unlimited data, talk, and text that are more than worth the rare times you’ll get throttled.

It’s also straightforward to switch to Mint Mobile from another carrier. All you have to do is cancel your service with your first carrier and then sign up for Mint. They’ll send you a SIM card to put into your device, and you’re done. It is really easy to port your same phone number across to Mint Mobile without having to pay a bunch of extra fees.

When you sign up for Mint Mobile, there are no commitment plans or contracts. The plans they offer are very flexible to your personal situation. All in all, Mint Mobile is a good company at a reasonable price with a great coverage map for your cell phone service.
